Town of Groton Police Announce Traffic Advisory, Road Closures for Annual July 4 Parade

GROTON, CT — The Town of Groton Police Department is advising residents and visitors of temporary road closures and traffic delays associated with the Town’s annual July 4th Parade on Saturday, July 4.

To ensure the safety of parade participants and spectators, temporary road closures and traffic delays are expected between approximately 9:30 a.m. and 1 p.m. in the areas of Fort Hill Road (Route 1), Poquonnock Road, Long Hill Road and the Poquonnock Bridge area.

The parade will begin at 10 a.m. at the intersection of Fort Hill Road (Route 1) and Ring Drive and will proceed west along Fort Hill Road to the Groton Shopping Plaza via Drozdyk Drive.

Participating vehicles and floats will stage at Poquonnock Plains Park before the start of the parade. Residents in the Poquonnock Bridge area should expect increased traffic on and around Central Avenue, Vergennes Court, Newtown Road (Route 117) and Depot Road. Motorists are encouraged to plan ahead and seek alternate routes if possible.

The Town of Groton Police Department reminds attendees that the parade is a family-friendly event and asks for the public’s cooperation in helping to provide a safe and enjoyable experience for all participants and spectators.

The consumption of alcohol in public areas is strictly prohibited. The Department asks attendees to support an alcohol-free event along the parade route.
