GROTON — Chief Louis J. Fusaro Jr. and the Town of Groton Police Department announce the arrest of a New Haven man on assault and burglary charges following an investigation into an April incident.
On Saturday, April 4, 2026, at approximately 2:30 p.m., the Groton Emergency Communications Center (GECC) received a 911 call from a store employee reporting that two men had entered a business on Route 12, in the Town of Groton, and attempted to rob him. Another employee and other customers attempted to intervene.
While officers were responding, the 911 caller reported one of the male suspects was possibly armed with a long knife. The two male suspects fled the scene prior to the arrival of police.
Upon the arrival of officers, they located a male victim who had suffered multiple stab wounds. An undisclosed amount of U.S. currency was stolen from the victim.
Officers provided medical aid to the victim until the arrival of Groton Ambulance personnel. The victim was transported by ambulance to Lawrence and Memorial Hospital in New London for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries.
Members of the Groton Police Department’s Criminal Investigation Division (CID) were called to the scene to assume the investigation. As a result of their investigation, a suspect was later identified as OSVALDO BEARD-BELTRAN, AGE 30, of NORTH HAVEN. CID investigators obtained a court-signed arrest warrant.
On July 9, the arrest warrant was executed, and BEARD-BELTRAN was arrested while in custody at the New London Superior Court on unrelated charges.
BEARD-BELTRAN has been charged with the following:
- Accessory to Burglary 1st Degree
- Robbery 1st Degree
- Accessory to Assault 1st Degree
- Accessory to Assault 2nd Degree
- Larceny 5th Degree
BEARD-BELTRANN is being held on a $250,000 court-set bond.
This incident remains under investigation by the Town of Groton Police Department’s CID.
