Groton and Stonington Police Departments Announce Traffic Advisory in Advance of Sunday’s Mystic Half Marathon & 10K

MYSTIC, CT — The Groton Police Department and Stonington Police Department announce temporary road closures for Sunday morning, May 17, in the Mystic section of Groton and Stonington. These closures are in conjunction with the Mystic Half Marathon and 10K Road Race.

The race will begin at 7 a.m. at Mystic Village and will travel through the downtown Mystic area before continuing north along River Road and throughout Old Mystic.

Residents and visitors are advised that temporary road closures will occur along the race route. Closures will be implemented in sections and roadways will be reopened as soon as the last runners have safely passed. The downtown Mystic area is expected to be clear of runners by approximately 9 a.m.

Streets Affected and Expected Delays:

  • Coogan Boulevard (Maritime Drive – Jerry Browne Road):
    7:55 a.m. – 9:45 a.m.
  • Coogan Boulevard (Greenmanville Road [Route 27] – Clara Drive):
    7:55 a.m. – 8:10 a.m.
  • Greenmanville Road [Route 27] (Coogan Boulevard – Holmes Street), Bay Street, Holmes Street:
    7:55 a.m. – 8:20 a.m.
  • Route 1 (Holmes Street – Pearl Street), Pearl Street: 
    8:00 a.m. – 8:30 a.m.
  • Grove Street, River Road:
    8:10 a.m. – 9:10 a.m.
  • Route 27 (River Road – Jerry Browne Road): 
    8:20 a.m. – 9:25 a.m. (Alternating one-way traffic in the southbound lane)
  • Jerry Browne Road (Route 27 – Coogan Boulevard):
    8:30 a.m. – 9:45 a.m.

Motorists and pedestrians are urged to use caution, expect delays and consider alternate routes when traveling in the Mystic area during this event.
