Town of Groton Police have arrested and charged 59-year-old MIGUEL GARCIA, of Groton, following a bank robbery on Wednesday, March 5.
“I’m happy to announce the arrest of MIGUEL GARCIA for last week’s robbery of the M&T Bank on Long Hill Road, Groton,” said Town of Groton Police Chief Louis J. Fusaro Jr. “This arrest is the result of exceptional work done by our patrol and detective divisions, and we appreciate the assistance provided by the public and local businesses.”
A robbery was reported at M&T Bank, 654 Long Hill Road, Groton, around 3:12 p.m. Wednesday afternoon. The suspect handed the teller a note, brandished a firearm and fled the scene with an unknown amount of money.
“Pure and simple, this is an example of good police work,” said Chief Fusaro. “Our patrol personnel did an excellent job quickly responding to the scene, securing it and gathering important information related to the investigation. Coupled with a K9 track conducted by one of our police department’s K9 teams, as well as good old-fashioned detective work, we were able to put this case together quickly and bring the suspect to justice. The information gathered at the initial stages led to the identification of a suspect and recovery of key evidence that was discovered after executing a search warrant.”
On Friday, March 7, 2025, after an extensive investigation, Town of Groton Police Detectives were able to identify GARCIA as a person of interest related to the bank robbery. Upon making contact with GARCIA at his home in Groton, detectives located items of evidentiary value in his possession. He was placed under arrest and transported to the Town of Groton Police Headquarters where he was processed and held on a $250,000 cash or surety bond.
Continuing their investigation, Town of Groton Police Detectives were able to obtain a search warrant for GARCIA’s residence and vehicle where additional items of evidentiary value were located and seized.
On March 10, 2025, GARCIA was transported to New London Superior Court for an arraignment, which was postponed to March 11, 2025.
On March 11, 2025, an arrest warrant was obtained and Town of Groton Police Detectives served GARCIA with the warrant Tuesday, at New London Superior Court, where he will be arraigned on all charges related to the bank robbery. The court assigned a $450,000 cash or surety bond to the warrant.
