GROTON — Chief L.J. Fusaro Jr. reports that the Town of Groton Police Department arrested and charged a 17-year-old juvenile in connection with a crash that killed a 14-year-old boy in October.
A 17-YEAR-OLD MALE was arrested and charged with:
Manslaughter in the Second Degree with a Motor Vehicle
Misconduct with a Motor Vehicle
Assault in the First Degree (Two Counts)
Operation by Person Under 21 years of Age while Blood Alcohol Content Exceeds Two-hundredths of One Percent.
Speeding
Failure to Drive in Proper Lane
Reckless Driving
Failure to Wear Safety Belt (Passenger)
Violation of Operator Requirements by 16/17-year-old
On Monday, Oct. 14, at approximately 1:21 a.m., Town of Groton first responders were dispatched to a serious injury crash in the area of Fishtown Road.
Police arrived to discover a single-vehicle crash that left four occupants of the motor vehicle suffering from serious injuries. All four occupants were transported to local hospitals.
Police were later notified that a 14-year-old male passenger died at the hospital.
As a result of an investigation by the Town of Groton Police Patrol and Criminal Investigation Divisions, on Thursday, Jan. 9, the Department obtained an arrest warrant for a 17-YEAR-OLD MALE who was determined to be the driver.
The investigation determined that, at the time of the crash, the juvenile was driving with an elevated blood alcohol level and driving at speeds exceeding the posted limit.
The 17-YEAR-OLD MALE was arrested without incident on Thursday, Jan. 9. He will be arraigned at a later date.
These are allegations. All suspects are presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty.
