On Sunday, September 10, 2023, at approximately 7:54 p.m., the Groton Emergency Dispatch Center received multiple calls reporting the sound of gun shots in the area of Pleasant Valley Road South in Groton. Simultaneously, Groton Emergency Dispatch Center received a call from a subject reporting that he had been robbed. This subject (victim) reported that he was in his motor vehicle following the subjects that robbed him and while doing so they had shot at him. The victim reported that the vehicle was heading toward New London. Officers subsequently met with the victim who reported that he arranged to meet a subject in the Groton Square parking lot located at 220 Rt 12 in order to sell a piece of jewelry. He reported that the subject, who he described as a Hispanic male, arrived in a silver Hyundai Sonata, and that there were two Hispanic male passengers. He reported that he and the driver exited their vehicles and that while showing the driver the piece of jewelry, he was approached from behind by two separate males. The victim reported that one of these males, who was wearing a white hooded sweatshirt, produced a gun, pointed it at him and tried to rip the necklace from his hand. These two males ran off toward the east side of the parking lot while the driver drove off across the parking lot and headed north on Rt 12 with the victim following. The Hyundai turned onto Pleasant Valley Road South and while on this road the victim reported that one of the rear passengers fired at his vehicle several times out the window. This appears to be an isolated incident.
