The Town of Groton’s Office of Emergency Management (formerly Civil Preparedness) is responsible for planning how the Town will respond to an emergency such as a hurricane or major winter storm, a hazardous materials release or an accident at the Millstone Nuclear Power Station. We are also responsible for the coordination of local government and emergency services with the Connecticut Department of Emergency Management and Homeland Security (DEMHS), Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) and surrounding communities.
The OEM is manned 24 hours a day in order to receive warnings and alerts over several different warning networks. Any warnings or alerts received are immediately distributed to Emergency Services, Public Officials and the public if necessary.
The Office of Emergency Management provides a single point of coordination for Groton public safety projects. This includes emergency management planning, preparation activities such as training and exercises, response support coordination during emergencies and coordination of recovery programs following emergencies. In this capacity, Groton’s Office of Emergency Management works closely with local and State public safety organizations to facilitate a coordinated approach to emergencies. The Town of Groton’s Office of Emergency Management is responsible for community preparedness through planning, mitigation, response and recovery.
