Groton Police Investigate Motor Vehicle Crash with Serious Injuries on Fishtown Road
On Monday, October 14, 2024 at approximately 1:21 a.m., Groton Emergency Dispatch received an iPhone Crash Detection call, and subsequently, 911 calls regarding a vehicle crash on Fishtown Rd near Little Gull Ln.
Responding Groton Police Officers reported the crash involved one vehicle, which left the roadway and crashed into the woods, trapping four occupants inside the vehicle. The vehicle was reported as a 2012 Toyota 4runner. All four occupants needed to be extricated by Emergency personnel. Emergency responders, included Mystic Fire Department, Old Mystic Fire Department Heavy Rescue, Noank Fire Department, Groton Ambulance Association, Mystic River Ambulance, North Stonington Ambulance, L&M Paramedics and Mohegan Tribe Paramedics. All four occupants were initially treated at the scene and then transported to L&M Hospital in critical condition.
The initial investigation into the accident showed the operator of the Toyota 4runner was traveling northbound on Fishtown Rd, just south of the Mystic River Magnet School, when the vehicle traveled across the southbound lane and left the roadway striking a tree.
Members of the Southeastern Connecticut Regional Traffic Unit arrived on scene to assist in the investigation. This team of accident re-constructionists includes officers from the Town of Groton Police Department, Stonington Police Department and Ledyard Police Department. Members of Groton Police Department Criminal Investigation Division also responded to assist in the investigation. Fishtown Road remained closed to motor vehicle traffic while the accident was being investigated.
